Almost Done

The house is almost complete!  We are having a final clean today and tomorrow the concrete floor will be buffed.  There are still a few minor tweaks but overall it is finished.  We are hoping to close on Wednesday and move that weekend and we can't wait to get into this house.  Apartment life definitely isn't as fun as I remembered it.  We are ready to have more than 800 square feet to share and more than one bathroom.

Front entry & steps.  The first step is a different color because it was freshly poured.

Concrete pavers connecting the two patios in the back yard.  The pile of rocks is where the fire pit will be.

View from the street/end of driveway.  The stone pillars were Barry's original design.  They turned out awesome!

Interior & Exterior Updates

Exterior

The rock work is well under way and they will likely finish it this week.  Once that is done the exterior will be just about finished!  We will still need some wood staining done.  The septic has started and the propane tank went in yesterday.

Interior

A lot has happened on the interior this week too.  We have selected the tile for our kitchen back splash and master bathroom shower/floor.  Our kitchen cabinets and master bathroom vanities were delivered and should be installed today.  The house was textured and we are narrowing down the paint colors.  We have also selected the wood flooring for the dining and tower room. The interior doors were also delivered and should go up this week or early next.

M. Bath Toilet Room Door (not a great image of it but it has obscured glass)

Cabinets (such exciting pictures of them, right?)

Wood for the Ceilings

Kitchen Back Splash (it's Onyx stone)

Master Bath Shower Tiles (they circle one's are for the shower floor and the square's are for the walls)

We do have a different tile picked out for the master bathroom floor but no pictures of it yet.

Dry wall and Foam

They finished hanging the dry wall in one day and started to float and tape. The insulation is finished and the rain is back.

Do's & Don'ts

What we DO have as of today... Walls!
See picture of dry wall:
Isn't it exciting?

Also rocks were delivered today for the non-stucco exterior.

What we DON'T have: a camera.  It is being held hostage by my wonderful husband who is still at work this evening. Please enjoy these images until I can get my hands on our camera and take some pictures of our house, not steal them from google images.

Also BIG props to our buddy Jake over at Fiberglass Insulators.
If you're in the market for insulation give him a call, he'll treat you right at a good price.

House Updates

It has been a while since we updated this blog and a lot has happened in the past month or so.  All of the roof's have been completed (metal & shingle), the floor has been stained, the stucco is painted and the insulation has begun.  Below are some pictures of all the progress.  Our builder estimates that we are about 60 days out from completion, which is great news!  We are tired of apartment living, it's not as much fun as it was 10 years ago.

Other items that have been done but won't be seen for a while are as follows: majority of the lighting fixtures have been selected and received, m. bathtub received, 2nd bath vanity received, cabinets have been finalized and placed into production for kitchen and master bath vanities. Our front door is on track to be delivered the 1st week of February.

Up close of the Pillars- the lower portion will be rock and the wood you see here will be stained to match the metal roof support wood.

Stain, Paint , a Little Lath and a New Visitor

They painted the fascia boards and trim and stained the wood under the eaves and porches.  The black material is the stucco lath.

When we got to the house there was a small uninvited visitor. We opened several windows/doors and he finally took flight and left.

Rough Times

A lot of rough work has been complete since the last post. The framing is all but complete, only a couple of punch items remain.  All of the doors have arrived except for the front door (we'll explain the story behind its slow arrival at another time). The roof is 90% finished and is on hold until the stucco sections have been completed.  The plumbing and electric rough are complete. The shower pan has been fiber glassed to prevent future leaks. We got samples for the concrete stain to ponder. Most importantly the trash heap is now contained in a dumpster. This past weekend I enlisted my brother and wife to help me run the internet, speakers, and cable lines. When you see them ask them about how much fun it was and if they are contemplating a career move.
